Mpu Purwa Malang Museum Location




This museum is located on Jalan Soekarno Hatta No. 210 Mojolangu Sub-District, Lowokwaru District, Malang City, East Java Province. The location of this museum is in the Griya Shanta Blok B housing complex, whose anesthetics are in front of Insan Amanah Elementary School, west of Brawijaya

The existence of these kingdoms, making Malang many found ancient relics in the form of statues, inscriptions and temples. Since the 1980s, the Culture Section of the Ministry of Education and Culture of Malang City has been trying to find a place to accommodate the findings of these ancient objects, minus the temple.

For the rescue and safety, the found objects were deposited at the Public Works Department (DPU) located on Jalan Halmahera. Then it was deposited again in the Senaputera Recreational Park, and in 1997 it was deposited in Cahyaningrat Restaurant.

This condition causes the Culture Section of the Department of Education and Culture of Malang City to plan to build a rescue center for ancient objects by referring to Law Number 5 of 1992 concerning Cultural Heritage Objects.

In 2000 the City Government (Pemkot) of Malang through the Department of Education took the initiative to collect all the ancient objects in Malang in a special place, both groups and those still scattered in each place. At that time, the choice of place was directed to the Public Library to be used part of the room. But due to a number of reasons and considerations, in 2001 the former SDN Mojolangu 2 Malang building was designated as a place to accommodate the ancient objects that are full of history.

Once established, the school building was renovated to fit the classroom into a suitable place to accommodate the ancient objects. The inauguration was carried out by the Mayor of MMpu Purwa Malang

History records that in the 8th century Malang was once the center of the Kanjuruhan Kingdom, which was the first kingdom in East Java. The next century Malang became a subordinate area of ​​the Ancient Mataram Kingdom which had moved to East Java. 13th Century Malang once again appeared in the arena of Javanese history, namely becoming the capital of the Kingdom of Tumapel. Sengguruh Kingdom is the last Hindu kingdom in Java. Sengguruh Kingdom is located in the southern part of Malang City (now in Kepanjen area).
